Steelers vs. Jets 2014 picks and predictions: No faith in New York

Most experts think Rex Ryan’s crew will take another loss this week.

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

2014 has not been kind to the New York Jets. That doesn't appear likely to change when the Pittsburgh Steelers come to town on Sunday.

For the first quarter of the season, the Steelers were buried behind the division rivals Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals. However, a Week 7 win over the Houston Texans that featured several turnovers ignited something in the team, which hasn't lost since. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is coming off back-to-back performances of six touchdowns and over 300 passing yards. The prime beneficiaries of his strong play have been receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le'Veon Bell. Brown leads all receivers in receiving yards with 996 while Bell comes in third for rushing yards with 711.

Since the Jets' Week 1 victory over the still-winless Oakland Raiders they've lost eight straight. Worse, New York has only been competitive in three games during that streak. Rex Ryan has come under siege as has his general manager John Idzik. Meanwhile, three different quarterbacks have taken snaps this year. Geno Smith has taken the most, but inconsistent play and a penchant for turnovers opened the door for veteran Michael Vick. When Vick suffered an injury last week, backup Matt Simms took over, doing little with the opportunity. Whoever the Jets' long-term starting quarterback is, he's not currently on the roster.

As one would expect, the Steelers are the popular pick this week. Every member of CBS Sports’ crew selected them to defeat the Jets.

CBS Sports senior writer Pete Prisco had this to say about the game:

The Jets are a disaster, no matter who plays quarterback. The Steelers are riding high on offense. Ben Roethlisberger should have a field day with the Jets secondary. There is no way Mike Vick can keep up.

Here at SB Nation, all seven of our experts are leaning towards the Steelers.
