For decades, the rivalry between the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders was one of the best in football. Now, after years of poor management by the Davis family in Oakland, little more is expected from the rivalry other than another lopsided affair.

A once-great rivalry looks like a one-sided affair.

Even after getting dismantled by the New England Patriots in prime time, the Broncos remain one of the elite teams in the NFL. Peyton Manning continues to trouble defenses with his pre-snap audibles and precision passing. Denver now features a quality defense to match courtesy of free agent additions DeMarcus Ware and Aqib Talib. Barring a major injury, this is a team likely to make the conference championship if not the Super Bowl.
The Raiders fall far short of the Broncos' level of potency. While they've improved at the quarterback position with rookie Derek Carr, this remains a stagnant offense with a similarly ineffective defense. The lack of quality play has already cost Dennis Allen his job, and nothing short of a miracle will allow interim head coach Tony Sparano to remain in Oakland past this season.
While Manning hasn't matched the torrid pace of his MVP 2013 season, he has posted an incredible 24:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He's also completing 67.3 percent of his passes and averaging 313.5 yards per game through the air. Meanwhile, Ronnie Hillman has firmly entrenched himself as the Broncos' lead back. On the year, he has 365 rushing yards on 85 carries, good for a clip of 4.3. He's also a featured target in the passing game, catching 18 passes for 128 yards.
Though not selected until the second round, Carr might be having the best year of any rookie quarterback in 2014. Despite his best receiver being James Jones, Carr has completed more than 60 percent of his passes for 1,711 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, he has been careless with the ball, tossing seven picks and losing a fumble. Other than Jones, Oakland's top receiver has been Andre Holmes, who through eight games has caught 25 passes for 400 yards and a team-leading four touchdowns.
The Broncos enter Sunday’s game with a record of 6-2. The Raiders come in at 0-8.
