Denard Robinson out for the season with foot injury

Robinson’s season is over due to a right mid-foot sprain suffered in Sunday’s loss against the Texans.

Richard Dole-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Wednesday that running back Denard Robinson is out for the season with a right mid-foot sprain. Robinson suffered the injury on Sunday against the Houston Texans, but was not listed on the postgame injury report. However, he was seen wearing a protective boot when he appeared at Wednesday's press conference, where it was revealed that he would miss the remaining three games.

The second-year back out of Michigan finished with a team-leading 582 rush yards and four touchdowns on 132 carries this season. He took over as the starter in Week 7 and posted back-to-back 100-yard rushing games before slowing down over the last month. Since the team’s bye in Week 11, Robinson averaged just 2.8 yards per rush on 35 attempts and failed to reach the end zone in three games.

With Robinson out of the picture, it is likely that rookie running back Storm Johnson -- who has been inactive the last six games -- and backup Toby Gerhart will get the majority of the carries for the Jaguars in the final three weeks.
