Drew Stanton has sprained ACL and MCL, per report

The Cardinals’ quarterback underwent an MRI Friday after leaving Thursday’s game against the Rams with the injury.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton has a sprained ACL and a Grade 2 MCL sprain, according to Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports. ESPN's Adam Schefter adds that Stanton will be evaluated on a weekly basis going forward. Stanton was injured in the third quarter of Arizona's 12-6 victory over the St. Louis Rams Thursday night, and was scheduled for an MRI Friday morning.

The Cardinals are already very thin at the quarterback position after losing Carson Palmer against the Rams to a torn ACL in November. With Palmer sidelined, Stanton stepped in and guided Arizona to a 2-2 record in his second stint as the starter, having already started three games in September while Palmer recovered from a shoulder injury.

Depending on how much time Stanton misses, the Cardinals will turn to veteran backup Ryan Lindley. He finished the game for the Cardinals Thursday night in relief of Stanton and completed four of 10 passes for 30 yards. Lindley had not played in an NFL game since 2012, when he made six appearances with Arizona under head coach Ken Whisenhunt. He has a career completion percentage of 51.4 with zero touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Cardinals are 11-3 and all but guaranteed to make the playoffs. However, it could be tough sledding without a viable quarterback at the helm.
