Dolphins could make a run at Jim Harbaugh, according to report

If the Dolphins don’t make the playoffs, Joe Philbin could be out and Jim Harbaugh could be the target to replace him.

The Miami Dolphins could part ways with Joe Philbin if the team fails to make the postseason for a sixth-consecutive season, and if it does, Jim Harbaugh would likely be the candidate who owner Stephen Ross would make a run at, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

It wouldn't be the first time the Dolphins made a run at Harbaugh, as the team attempted to hire the former Stanford Cardinal coach in 2011, but were spurned in favor of the San Francisco 49ers. Four seasons later, Ross believes the Dolphins are a team with the talent to make a run and a more attractive coaching job than when Harbaugh first turned the team down.

That belief in the talent of the team is what could be Philbin's undoing after three seasons at the helm. The former Green Bay Packers' offensive coordinator took over in 2012 and led the team to a 7-9 record in his first season and an 8-8 record in 2013. Now at 7-6, the Dolphins have a chance at the first winning season for the franchise since 2008.

While a chance at winning the AFC East still exists, the realistic hope for the Dolphins would be a Wild Card berth and the team can go a long way toward staying in that race with a win against the New England Patriots in Week 15. The team then finishes the season with back-to-back home games against the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets.
