Raiders, Rams eyeing Los Angeles for 2015 NFL season, per report

Twenty years after the Rams and Raiders left Los Angeles, both teams could be headed back to Southern California for the 2015 season.

The NFL could be back in Los Angeles in time for the 2015 season and it could feature both the Rams and Raiders making the move after the 2014 season, according to an NFL executive.

Eric Grubman, the executive overseeing the LA initiative, confirmed at the owners meetings last week that there is more than one team that intends to make the move to Southern California as early as next season. However, multiple options for when and where those moves happen are still on the table, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Rams’ owner Stan Kroenke reportedly has a strong interest in getting the team to Los Angeles as soon as possible, and is frustrated with the pace of the process of relocation. With the Edward Jones Dome in need of renovation and attendance consistently near the bottom of the NFL, Kroenke plans on moving the team back to its former home even if he has to wait until 2016 to do so, according to La Canfora:

...even if a move to LA does not occur by the start of next season, it is seen as a forgone conclusion that some team is playing in the Rose Bowl on an interim basis by 2016 while a new stadium is being constructed.

The Raiders also have stadium issues and aren't interested in playing at the O.co Coliseum much longer. A move to San Antonio has been floated by the team, but that is reportedly considered to be an unrealistic possibility and the Raiders are the most likely candidate to join the Rams in Los Angeles, although the Chargers aren't out of the question due to the issues with Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

Both the Rams and Raiders have a February deadline to file paperwork for a relocation for the 2015 season.
