Mario Williams among players cashing in for Pro Bowl selections

A Pro Bowl selection means a trip to Arizona, but for some it also means a nice holiday bonus.

The Pro Bowl doesn't rank very high on the list of the NFL's most-anticipated events, but it can still have a major impact, at least on a player's bank account. Not all players have Pro Bowl incentives in their contracts, but for those who do, a selection or a snub can mean hundreds of thousands of dollars. Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams was among the players who received a hefty bonus for his selection.

Williams will receive $400,000 for making the Pro Bowl, according to Robert Raiola. The bonus is only slightly less than some rookies will make for the full season. For Williams, however, it’s only a small drop in the bucket as part of his six-year, $96 million contract.

That isn't the case with all of the selections. Patriots wide receiver Matthew Slater was selected to the Pro Bowl for his work as a special teams player. His selection earned him a $300,000 bonus, which is equal to 25 percent of his $1.2 million base salary this season.
