The Cardinals benched Logan Thomas on Christmas

Ryan Lindley is once again Arizona’s starter when the 49ers host the Cardinals in Week 17.

Logan Thomas lasted three days as the Arizona Cardinals' starting quarterback. Coach Bruce Arians has decided to go back to Ryan Lindley as the team's starter for Week 17 just days after saying Thomas would get the nod, according to beat reporter Kent Somers.

Lindley struggled mightily in the Cardinals' loss to the Seahawks Sunday, completing only 18 of 44 passes and throwing one interception to zero touchdowns. Arians said the rookie Thomas would get the start but would be on a "short lease." Apparently, a poor practice Wednesday was enough to get Arians to change his mind before the game ever started.

Thomas was drafted in the fourth round after starting for three years at Virginia Tech. He has only completed one of the nine passes he's thrown this season, but it did go for an 81-yard touchdown against the Broncos Oct. 5.

Lindley, a sixth-round pick in 2012, is the third starting quarterback Arizona has used this year. The Cardinals lost Carson Palmer to a torn ACL and are currently without backup Drew Stanton. Stanton is recovering from a strained ACL and MCL, but hopes to be ready in time for the playoffs. The Cardinals have already locked in a postseason appearance.
