Brian Hoyer out, Connor Shaw will start for Browns, per report

Connor Shaw will start for the Browns in Sunday’s game against the Ravens after Brian Hoyer was ruled out with a shoulder injury.

Rookie quarterback Connor Shaw will make his first career NFL start for the Cleveland Browns in Sunday's season finale against the Baltimore Ravens, per Ian Rapoport. Shaw was forced into action after both Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel suffered injuries in last week's loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Manziel started that game but left after sustaining a hamstring injury late in the first half, and he was placed on injured reserve earlier this week. Hoyer replaced Manziel against the Panthers, and then hurt his shoulder after taking a hard hit in the fourth quarter. Though he did finish the game, Hoyer was limited in practice all week and will not be able to play Sunday against the Ravens.

The Browns have already been eliminated from the postseason but still have plenty to play for in Week 17. A win over the Ravens would not only give them their first non-losing season since 2007, but would also knock their bitter rival out of contention for the final spot in the AFC playoff field.

Shaw, who went undrafted out of South Carolina, has spent the entire season on the practice squad and saw increased repetitions in practice this week.
