Jets will ‘move swiftly’ to fire Rex Ryan, John Idzik, per report

The regular season has come to an end, and one report suggests Rex Ryan and John Idzik will be out of a job sooner rather than later.

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson will "move swiftly" to fire head coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik on Monday, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The regular season came to an end Sunday and with multiple reports suggesting Ryan is done for in New York, there's no real reason for the team to hang on to him beyond Monday.

New York wrapped up its 2014 campaign with a 4-12 record, finishing the year on a high note with a win over the AFC East rival Miami Dolphins, 37-24. It was clear the players were going hard for Ryan in that game, even if everyone suspected he wasn't going to make it through Monday with a job.

Ryan’s job security has been in doubt for some time now, with many suggesting he was going to be fired at the end of the 2013 season. That was a bad year, but it seems Ryan had built up enough goodwill with a couple AFC Championship appearances in the first two seasons with New York. It now looks like his sixth year will be his last.

Idzik joined the Jets in 2013 after six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, but the Jets went 8-8 that year and 4-12 this year, so Johnson likely wants a total reboot. Idzik's firing didn't seem as set in stone as Ryan's throughout this year, with reports earlier in December suggesting that Idzik was already assisting with the early stages of the head coaching search.
