Bruce Arians says he should’ve kept his ‘mouth shut’ about Cardinals’ starting QB

The Arizona Cardinals dropped another game in Week 17, but the team expressed confidence in Ryan Lindley after the third-year quarterback threw the first two touchdown passes of his career in the 20-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

It was a resurgent performance for Lindley that came just a few days after he was benched in favor of Logan Thomas. That lasted just a few days though, and Thomas was benched on Christmas after a poor practice Wednesday.

After the game on Sunday, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians expressed regret over his decision to name Thomas the starter for Week 17 (via Dan Bickley of AZCentral):

“Ryan was very cool last week, and I thought he was extremely poised, (and) knew the game plan today,” Arians said. “And all that situation that happened Wednesday was my fault. I should’ve just kept my mouth shut.”

The loss secured the fifth seed in the playoffs for the Cardinals and the team will open its postseason Saturday against the Carolina Panthers. The Carolina defense finished No. 10 in the NFL in yards allowed and No. 11 in passing yards allowed.

Lindley finished Sunday 23-of-39 passing with 316 passing yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
