Giants vs. Titans 2014 picks and predictions: Experts see New York breaking losing streak

Tom Coughlin might have something happy to discuss during his next press conference.

The New York Giants have lost seven straight, including a 25-24 loss to the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13. They take the field for one of their last winnable games this Sunday when they visit the Tennessee Titans, who are on a six-game winless streak.

The Giants' shortcomings could cost venerated head coach Tom Coughlin his job. They haven't reached the playoffs since winning Super Bowl XLVI, and 2014 has seen them struggle as badly as they did during former coach Jim Fassel's last season in 2003. For a while it appeared that the West Coast offense was going to save Eli Manning, but he has reverted back into a turnover machine, throwing six picks over the team's previous three games. Even star rookie Odell Beckham Jr. hasn't been able to turn the offense around.

In Tennessee, new head coach Ken Whisenhunt’s first season hasn’t gone according to plan. The team has cycled through all three of the quarterbacks on its roster without landing on anything resembling a long-term answer at the position. Not helping matters is the offensive line, which has played poorly despite considerable investment in the draft and free agency. The defense is also a work in progress as the Titans are transitioning from a 4-3 scheme into a 3-4.

Overall, the experts are leaning toward the Giants this week. The crew at ESPN is siding with the road team by an 8-5 margin while five of CBS Sports’ eight-man panel have them defeating Tennessee.

CBS Sports senior writer Pete Prisco went with the Giants as well and had this to say about the game:

The Giants are playing consecutive road games outside the division, and lost to the Jaguars last week. You have to wonder what the motivation will be here. The Titans, though, aren’t playing good football -- on either side of the ball. The Giants find a way.

New York support is also strong here at SB Nation, with only two of our experts picking the home team.
