NFL power rankings: Eagles and 49ers slide for Week 15

Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks move up.

The Philadelphia Eagles vacated the No. 2 spot in SB Nation's power rankings with their 24-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at home. While Philly remains atop the NFC East, the Seahawks closed the gap between themselves and the top of the conference.

Against a stingy Eagles defense, Russell Wilson played a fine game, throwing for 263 yards and two touchdowns. He added 48 more yards and a score on the ground. But the star for Seattle was its defense, which held Mark Sanchez to just 96 yards. Tharold Simon's fourth-quarter interception sealed the win for the Seahawks and signaled their return to prominence in the NFC. Now 9-4, the Seahawks trail the Arizona Cardinals by one game in the division. The NFC West rivals face off again in two weeks.

Another team sliding down the rankings is San Francisco. The 49ers dropped their second game in as many weeks, this time against a woeful Oakland Raiders team on Sunday. Derek Carr carved up San Francisco's defense, completing 78.6 percent of his passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns. The rookie outperformed Colin Kaepernick, who threw two picks and only one touchdown. The loss drops the 49ers to 7-6 and third place in their division. They'll likely need to win out in order to secure a spot in the playoffs.

The NFC South remains as muddled as ever. The New Orleans Saints fumbled another winnable game to the Carolina Panthers, ending their chance at a winning season. That was good news for the division-leading Atlanta Falcons, who were defeated in Green Bay on Monday Night Football. It's appearing increasingly likely that NFC South teams will not win another game outside the division. As a consequence, whoever ultimately finishes at the top will probably have a sub-.500 record.
