One of the most important players in Redskins history, Williams is now part of the team once again.

The Washington Redskins have hired Doug Williams, former quarterback , to their front office as a personnel executive, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

Washington, coming off a very disappointing 3-13 campaign after winning the NFC East in 2012, is looking to reboot. General manager Bruce Allen lauded the signing of Williams, per Brian McIntyre:

“We believe he has an incredible talent for identifying the type of players we want with the Redskins,” Allen said.

Williams joins the Redskins after spending the previous three years as a college head coach with Grambling University. Williams has a long history at Grambling, having played his college ball there until the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made him the 17th overall selection of the 1978 NFL Draft.

After flaming out with Tampa Bay, Williams moved onto the USFL before eventually coming back to the NFL with Washington. Ultimately, Williams would play a historic role in the league, becoming the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl, demolishing the Denver Broncos 42-10 in Super Bowl XXII to earn MVP honors.
