Chris Harris injury: Broncos CB has successful knee surgery

Denver gets good news with one of its best defensive players.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. underwent successful knee surgery on Thursday under careful guidance of the renowned Dr. James Andrews, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

Harris went down with a season-ending torn ACL against the San Diego Chargers during their Divisional round game in the AFC playoffs. Entering the offseason, Harris is schedule to become a restricted free agent, meaning in all likelihood he will sign a short-term deal to stay in Denver.

As a restricted free agent, a team on the outside can offer Harris a contract but the Broncos have the right to match. Should they elect not to match the deal, the other team would have to surrendering draft pick compensation, with the pick depending on what the Broncos assign to Harris. The higher the assigned compensation, the more Harris is paid.

Down the stretch of last season, Harris became arguably the best cornerback on Denver’s defense. With Champ Bailey seemingly aging 10 years per second, Harris was playing ample time alongside Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Originally thought to be the nickel back, Harris will likely be seeing starter time once healthy.
