Broncos interested in Louis Delmas, per report

General manager John Elway is looking into Delmas, a talented player with some risk attached.

USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos need help on the defensive side of the ball, and aren't overlooking some of the newest free agents. Louis Delmas, a safety who was cut by the Detroit Lions last week, has the Broncos interested, according to the Denver Post.

Delmas was going to make $6 million with Detroit this season before the club decided it was time to part ways. The 26-year-old has constantly been injured throughout his NFL career, including three knee surgeries. Delmas would instantly upgrade Denver’s defense if he was able to stay on the field, something which hasn’t come easy to him.

Last year, Delmas almost never practiced but managed to play 16 games for the first time in his five-year career. Should the Broncos decide to sign Delmas, he would come in and join a safety group currently headlined by Rahim Moore and Duke Ihenacho.

Denver enters the offseason with approximately $11 million in cap space but are expected to open up around another $10 million with the cut of Champ Bailey. However, the Broncos have a bevy of free agents, including Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Eric Decker, Knowshon Moreno and Wesley Woodyard.
