Ravens will wait for NFL decision on Ray Rice, says Ozzie Newsome

The team’s general manager has seen the video and says “it doesn’t look good.”

INDIANAPOLIS - The Baltimore Ravens will wait on a decision from the NFL until deciding what to do with running back Ray Rice.

Rice allegedly hit his fiancée, Janay Palmer, and knocked her unconscious at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City. They were both arrested last week on domestic violence charges.

Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said at the NFL Scouting Combine Saturday that he hasn't spoken with Rice yet, but that's because he's been in town since Monday working with the competition committee.

Head coach John Harbaugh has talked to Rice two or three times, Newsome said, and someone from the Ravens has talked to the running back every day.

“As a league, we have a conduct policy,” Newsome said. “Being a member of the league, we will follow that A to Z. Up until we get to that point, he falls under the personal policy of the league. We will allow the league to take it’s position before we have to take any.”

Newsome said he’s seen the Rice video online “just like everyone and it doesn’t look good.”

“I’m going to reserve all my comments until I have a chance to talk to Ray,” Newsome said. “The whole video needs to be reviewed.”

“In any of those situations, it’s very concerning. But we get all the facts and will let the process run itself. We will let the facts determine what the consequence will be.”
