NFL Combine 2014: Auburn’s Dee Ford says he’s better than Jadeveon Clowney

Auburn defensive end Dee Ford called South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney a ‘blind dog in a meat market.’

Since arriving at South Carolina, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been viewed as a first-round NFL talent. As he performs at the 2014 NFL Combine, that thought has hardly changed despite a dip in his statistical production during the 2013 season.

Auburn's Dee Ford doesn't see it, though that's in relation to his own abilities. A fine prospect himself, Ford on Sunday said he doesn't want to settle for the second round, but he also went at Clowney, according to ESPN.

"I'm better [than Clowney]," Ford said. "Let's put it like this. People like to talk about size all the time. Size is pretty much overrated in my eyes.

"You can look at guys like Robert Mathis, Elvis Dumervil, Von Miller. These are 6-2 guys and under. People are just looking at the fact that [Clowney] is a physical specimen. Honestly if you watch the film, he plays like a blind dog in a meat market basically."

Clowney measured in officially at 6’5.25 and 266 pounds, while Ford stands 6’2.25 and 252 pounds.

While most every draft analyst ranks Clowney as the best defensive end prospect, Ford is hardly being undersold. NFL Draft Scout calls him the third-best end prospect, and a first-round talent. SB Nation's Matthew Fairburn sees Ford as an outside linebacker and the seventh-best one at that. Ford is ranked 61st on SB Nation's big board.
