The Washington Redskins and linebacker Perry Riley have begun contract negotiations, but no deal is imminent, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.
Redskins, Perry Riley begin contract negotiations
Washington is hoping to keep one of its more productive players in the fold.

In a very disappointing season for the Redskins, in which they finished 3-13 after winning the 2012 NFC East title, Riley was one of the better performers. Riley led the team with 115 tackles to go with three sacks and an interception. At 25 years old, Riley just finished the last year of his rookie deal.
With London Fletcher retiring, signing Riley to an extension would be crucial for Washington. The defense already has plenty of question marks, including the impending free agency of Brian Orakpo, a former Pro Bowler.
Riley has proven to be a very consistent player. He enjoyed his best season in 2012 when he amassed 129 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Entering the prime of his career, it stands to reason Riley will only continue to get better throughout a long-term contract.
