NFL news roundup: Super Bowl sets viewer records, Jets interested in receivers

The blowout didn’t deter Super Bowl viewers, and the New York Jets are reportedly interested in signing Jeremy Maclin and Emmanuel Sanders to their wide receiver corps.

Super Bowl XLVIII was decided by one of the largest margins in history, but viewers tuned in to Super Bowl programming with record numbers.

While the game itself finished with the fifth-highest rating in Super Bowl history, NFL Network and NFL.com set record numbers in the week preceding the matchup of the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos. NFL Network's coverage was up more than 20 percent as compared to 2013 and visits to NFL Digital Media increased by 24 percent, according to the NFL.

Jets interested in Maclin, Sanders

The New York Jets are looking to add weapons to their offense and they have Jeremy Maclin and Emmanuel Sanders at the top of their wish list, according to the New York Daily News. Maclin missed the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL, while Sanders racked up career numbers with the Steelers. Jeremy Kerley was the leading receiver for the Jets in 2013 with 43 receptions for 523 yards and three touchdowns.

Del Rio, Broncos agree on 2-year deal

Jack Del Rio is set to remain the defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos after agreeing to a two-year extension on Thursday that will keep him with the team through the 2015 season, via the Denver Post. Hired in 2012, the Broncos finished among the best in the league in yards and points allowed before declining to the middle of the pack in 2013, although injuries were certainly a factor. The Broncos finished with the 22nd ranked defense in points allowed.

Alexander has knee surgery

The career of San Diego Chargers wide receiver Danario Alexander has been defined by injuries and those struggles continued this week, as a setback necessitated another knee surgery. He previously had surgery in August to repair a torn ACL that cost him his entire 2013 season. Alexander has had four knee surgeries to repair ACL tears since his time with Missouri.
