Former NFL safety Darren Sharper has been fired from the NFL Network, a spokesman told the New York Daily News.

The network officially terminated him after new rape charges surfaced on Thursday. He is charged with drugging and raping two women in Los Angeles, and is facing two additional counts of aggravated rape in New Orleans. Sharper pleaded not guilty to the first two charges, but when New Orleans police issued an arrest warrant, he turned himself in to LAPD and is spending the weekend behind bars.

Sharper is also being investigated for similar behavior in Arizona, Las Vegas and Florida. If convicted of the Los Angeles charges, Sharper could spend more than 30 years in prison. He’s looking at a potential life sentence if convicted in the New Orleans case.

Sharper joined the NFL Network in 2011 after retiring from the league. He played in the NFL for 14 seasons on three different teams, winning a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints in 2009. The network placed him on indefinite suspension without pay on Jan. 18 following an arrest for drug possession.
