Browns set to add Karlos Dansby & Donte Whitner, per reports

The Browns are set to make some big moves to kickoff their new regime. Cleveland has added two big name free agents to their defense.

The Browns will reportedly sign Karlos Dansby, a 32-year old middle linebacker who is coming off a strong season with the Cardinals, according to AZ Central's Kent Somers. Dansby will replace long-time Browns inside linebacker D'Qwell Jackson in the lineup. Jackson was cut in February, and signed with the Colts prior to free agency.

The deal is worth $24 million over four years with $14 million in guaranteed money, according to Somers. He will reportedly receive $10 million in his first season with Cleveland.

The Browns are also expected to add former 49ers safety Donte Whitner, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot. Adding the two veterans and saying goodbye to Jackson and likely T.J. Ward, shows that the new coach and GM felt they could do better than the star players that they inherited.

Last season, the Browns spent big on linebacker Paul Kruger and defensive lineman Desmond Bryant. Those two moves provided mediocre results. Adding Dansby and potentially Ward to the mix, the Browns are hoping they'll experience the opposite. The team has already released wide receiver Davone Bess, who was traded for and given an extension by the previous regime last season.

The Browns are also expected to add some more offensive talent to the lineup, and may look to acquire Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis, according to Pro Football Talk. Cleveland is clearly being aggressive as they enter their latest phase.
