Titans sign WR/KR Dexter McCluster

After making his first All-Pro team, McCluster is now a bit richer and will be playing in Tennessee over the next three seasons.

The Titans have signed wide receiver/return specialist Dexter McCluster to a three-year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

After being something of a fringe role player for the Chiefs throughout much of his career, McCluster emerged in 2013 as a legitimate playmaker in the NFL. A former second round pick out of Ole Miss in 2010, McCluster has shown the ability to play effectively both as a receiver and punt returner.

McCluster had a historic season as a punt returner in his first season under renowned special teams coach Dave Toub. Toub, who had long been in the same role with the Chicago Bears, brought his magic over to Kansas City and transformed McCluster into something resembling Devin Hester.

McCluster amassed 686 punt-return yards, the fourth highest single-season total in NFL history and a Chiefs franchise record, breaking the mark of former great Dante Hall. McCluster returned two punts for touchdowns as well.

On offense, McCluster served as Kansas City’s primary slot receiver. In 15 games, McCluster caught 53 passes for 511 yards and two touchdowns. McCluster also provides solid hands, becoming a favorite of quarterback Alex Smith on third down.

McCluster will now pair with Justin Harper and Kendall Wright at wide receiver and could be used as a speed option in the running game with the likely departure of Chris Johnson.
