Jim Irsay arrested for DUI, possession of a controlled substance

Irsay was pulled over by police late Sunday night and arrested. He was later booked at a Carmel, Ind., jail. His bond was set at $22,500.

UPDATE 10:37 a.m. ET: Irsay has been charged with four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance (D felony) and operating while intoxicated (Class A misdemeanor), according to Kristine Guerra of the Indianapolis Star. Police say they found Schedule IV prescription drugs in Irsay’s car.

The NFL confirmed to Pro Football Talk on Monday morning that the league’s Personal Conduct Policy does apply to owners as well as players and non-players working in the NFL. The policy states:

All persons associated with the NFL are required to avoid conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League. This requirement applies to players, coaches, other team employees, owners, game officials, and all others privileged to work in the National Football League.

Persons arrested or charged are required to undergo evaluation and possibly required to enter a treatment program.

Irsay, 54, has owned the Colts since 1997. The team has been under control of the Irsay family since it’s days in Baltimore, when Jim’s father, Robert, had control of the organization before passing away.

In the past, Irsay has claimed via Twitter that he does not drink.

However, Bob Kravitz, the long-time Colts writers for the Indianapolis Star, said Monday morning that Irsay had been “struggling” recently.
