Former Michigan OT Taylor Lewan charged with assault

The potential first-round NFL Draft pick has been arraigned on three charges related to a December incident that left two Ohio State fans beaten.

Former Michigan All-American and potential first-round NFL Draft pick Taylor Lewan has been arraigned on three criminal charges stemming from a Dec. 1 assault, according to Kyle Feldscher of the Ann Arbor News.

Lewan, rated as SB Nation’s No. 3 offensive tackle prospect and the No. 9 overall pick in the most recent mock draft, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of assault or assault and battery. The charges come in connection with an incident following the Wolverines’ 42-41 loss to Ohio State on Nov. 30 in which two Buckeye fans were reportedly assaulted in Ann Arbor.

Police have refused to discuss details of the investigation, but more information should become available after Lewan’s April 8 arraignment.

No one was arrested on the scene and Lewan has previously denied the allegations and stated that he was trying to break up a fight.

"I wasn't in any fight. I didn't hit anybody," Lewan told The Detroit News at the NFL Combine. "I was really just trying to help out a situation and break up something. I really can't go into any more details than that.

“I didn’t hit anybody or do anything like that, so my focus has been here (preparing for the bowl). I’m sure the truth will come out, and it will all work out.”

Police confirmed on Christmas Eve that they were looking into Lewan’s involvement in the incident, and the investigation lasted until March 6.
