The 2014 NFL Draft was pushed back to May from its usual April date to accommodate the Rockette’s new “Hearts and Lights” show. According to the New York Times, that show has been cancelled. The show’s producer said that it “become clear that additional work is needed” before the show could be unveiled for an audience.

Turns out the NFL didn’t need to push back the NFL Draft. The Rockettes have postponed “Hearts and Lights,” the ambitious Radio City show that was set to begin its run next week.

Free agency is altering how teams will attack the draft. For some, free agency has eliminated needs. For others, it has made new ones. Traditionally held at the end of April, the NFL Draft was pushed back to May 8-10 so that the Rockettes would not have to interrupt their show’s run at Radio City Music Hall. “Hearts and Lights” had grand ambitions, with 3D effects, advanced puppetry and a 26-foot tall Statue of Liberty planned to be featured. The show was written by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Doug Wright.
The show was supposed to run 59 times over a five-week period beginning with previews on March 27. Now Rockettes fans will have to wait until 2015 to potentially show, and until this winter to see the famed “Christmas Spectacular.”
The NFL meanwhile, will more than likely keep the dates of the NFL Draft as is.
