D’Qwell Jackson, Colts agree to 4-year, $22 million contract, according to report

Indianapolis has bolstered its linebacker corps with the addition of Jackson.

The Indianapolis Colts and inside linebacker D'Qwell Jackson have agreed on a contract, according to Ian Rapoport. Jackson signed a four-year, $22 million deal with half of it guaranteed, per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Jackson was released last week by the Cleveland Browns after playing the first seven years of his career there. Last year, Jackson was highly productive and led the team with 141 tackles while adding 1.5 sacks. Jackson was ultimately cut because new head coach Mike Pettine saw him as a better fit in the 4-3 defense and not the 3-4 currently employed in Cleveland.

However, the Colts run a 3-4 defense under coach Chuck Pagano. Jackson will be taking the place of free-agent linebacker Pat Angerer, who will not be brought back to Indianapolis, according to Pro Football Talk.

Jackson was ranked as the 42nd-best inside linebacker in the league last year out of 55, rating him with a -11.6. Both Jerrell Freeman and Angerer were ranked higher, making this move questionable in the eyes of PFF.

Still, Colts owner Jim Irsay is jacked up.
