There's been a lot of drama in A.J. McCarron's life recently. There was starting 11-0 during his final season as the starting quarterback at Alabama only to miss out on a trip to the national championship. There was finishing runner-up in the Heisman Trophy voting. Oh yeah, and there's preparing for the NFL Draft in April. And getting engaged ...
A.J. McCarron, Katherine Webb to star in reality TV show
Because of course the former Alabama quarterback and his supermodel girlfriend are filming a reality show about their wedding.

The next logical step, of course, is a reality TV show.
McCarron and his supermodel fiancee, Katherine Webb, have decided to allow cameras to follow them around as they prepare for their upcoming wedding, culminating in a televised ceremony. This is all according to the Auburn Plainsman, because of course this story was first reported by the Auburn student newspaper.
“They’ve already started filming during the proposal,” Katherine’s sister, Laurie Webb, told The Plainsman. “From what I understood, it came from someone else. I don’t think they were trying to get into a reality show, I think they just had the opportunity and decided to take it.”
McCarron, no doubt wary of his image heading into April’s draft and looking to prevent teams from thinking him distracted, was quick to downplay his role in the show.
I think it's funny how people think I am doing a tv show. I play football that's it! What my future wife does is her business #worryaboutyou
— AJ McCarron (@10AJMcCarron) April 9, 2014 Webb, who attended Auburn, is a burgeoning model and TV personality who earned the title of Miss Alabama in 2012. She appeared in a celebrity diving show called Splash and was featured in the 2013 Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, but you likely know her best from being slobbered on by Brent Musburger during the 2013 BCS National Championship.
While showing up on reality shows certainly won’t help McCarron’s draft stock come April, NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks doesn’t think it will hurt much either, per NFL.com.
A.J. McCarron’s participation in a reality show will be discussed in meetings, but it shouldn’t have any impact on his draft status. He has been a solid character guy throughout his time at Alabama, so most scouts won’t view this as a major deal. Plus, everyone understands his fiancee is an aspiring model/actress and this is part of the deal. Of course, McCarron will need to address all of the particulars of his new show with prospective teams, but I can’t imagine it significantly impacting his draft stock in any way.
That hasn’t stopped an outpouring of hot takes on Twitter.
Former NFL MVP Rich Gannon on Sirius about @10AJMcCarron doing a reality show with Katherine Webb: "A bad idea. Really a poor decision."
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 9, 2014 So AJ McCarron is getting a reality show, but he's the grounded one and Johnny Manziel is the fame whore. Got it.
— Mark Passwaters (@themarkup) April 9, 2014 Between past situations, team reactions and this reality show, AJ McCarron will be a harder sell on Day 2 then I expected a few months ago.
— Eric Galko (@OptimumScouting) April 9, 2014 The best line of the day, however, was from Washington Redskins safety Ryan Clark.
"@Realrclark25: So AJ McCarron is filming a reality show about his wedding &...No one thinks this is bigger deal than a logo?" Crazy bro
— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) April 9, 2014 That, of course, is a reference to the recent uproar over Robert Griffin III unveiling a personal logo earlier this week.
While this show will undoubtedly get attention, the entertainment value of watching McCarron try on tuxedos is questionable at best. You get some cameras to follow Manziel around the night of the draft, now we have some good television.
