NFL Draft could become 4-day event, says Roger Goodell

Roger Goodell says the NFL is considering make the NFL Draft a day longer and permanently moving the date to May. Just what you wanted!

The NFL Draft, already a three-day spectacle of rumors and minute analysis, may be soon become a four-day event. Roger Goodell, speaking with NFL.com's Jeff Darlington, said that the NFL is considering the idea, as well as mulling whether to move the date back to April or keep it in May.

The draft would still be seven rounds, making it unclear how the rounds would be divided across the days if a fourth day was added. In the current three-day format, the first round takes place on Thursday, the second and third rounds take place Friday, and the fourth through seventh rounds take place Saturday.

Whether this is a good idea depends on the individual. We have well-documented the fatigue of the lengthened NFL Draft process, however, as well as the loopy things it makes people say. That issue likely would not be alleviated by an even more drawn out draft.

As for the date, mid-April seemed to work well for several years, and there hasn’t been much clamoring to keep the draft in May. NFL coaches may feel differently than the rest of us, however:
