Tre Mason denies he needs surgery after combine medical re-check

Tre Mason will miss OTAs to recover from wrist surgery, according to reports. Mason disagrees.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Several NFL Draft prospects were sent to Friday's Combine recheck to have ailments re-examined by doctors. None of the attendees were particular surprising, except for Auburn running back Tre Mason. According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Mason will have to undergo surgery to fuse a bone in his wrist that hasn't healed properly, and should miss OTAs as a result.

Or supposedly, anyway. Mason vehemently denies the report.

It’d be odd if the media had a vendetta against Mason for some reason. The issue will be cleared up by the end of May when teams begin Organized Team Activities and Mason is presumably on a roster. The good news for the running back is that even if he does have to undergo surgery, it shouldn’t hurt his draft stock too badly.

Others at the Combine recheck included tight Austin Seferian-Jenkins (foot), quarterbacks Zach Mettenberger and Aaron Murray (torn ACLs), cornerback Jason Verrett (shoulder) and defensive end Stephon Tuitt (foot), all of who have been dealing with known ailments for quite some time.
