Quotables: Toby Gerhart set to be Jaguars workhorse?

The Jaguars are trying to replace Maurice Jones-Drew, and Toby Gerhart could be the work horse.

Stephen Dunn

“I think I’m in a unique situation. Even though it’s my fifth year in the league, I can come in and be a dominant guy. I’m ready for my shot now.”

- Jaguars running back Toby Gerhart

Replacing Maurice Jones-Drew will be no small task for the Jaguars, but Toby Gerhart is going to be the guy that tries. The Jaguars signed Gerhart to a healthy contract in free agency, and the Florida Times-Union suggests he could receive somewhere between 240 and 300 carries. Gerhart has been stuck behind Adrian Peterson in Minnesota for his entire career and is looking forward to getting his first chance to start in the NFL.

“Jermichael FInley is scheduled for an X-ray on Monday”

- Tom Pelissero, USA Today

Jermichael Finley's road to recovery has not been an easy one. According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Finley will have another X-ray tomorrow, but it's just a standard check-up that Finley will have every six to eight weeks until he is cleared to play. Finley's 2013 season ended with a neck injury.

"It seems highly unlikely the 49ers would go all Mike Ditka and trade their entire draft to move up for Mike Evans. How much seems logical?"

- Levi Damien of Silver and Black Pride

The 49ers are reportedly interested in trading up in the 2014 NFL Draft and could be targeting Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans, according to Chris Mortensen. If they want to get Evans, they will have to trade into the top 10, and the Raiders could be a possible suitor. But how much would San Francisco have to give up? Levi Damien of Silver and Black Pride seems to think it would cost the 49ers five picks to move all the way up to No. 5 in the draft, but they do have the ammunition to do it.

"Happy to announce that Anthony Spencer has re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year deal."

- Jordan Woy, Anthony Spencer’s agent

After losing DeMarcus Ware and Jay Ratliff, the Dallas Cowboys' defensive line depth chart was looking a bit light. But the Cowboys brought back some depth on Sunday by re-signing Anthony Spencer to a one-year contract. Spencer only played in one game for the Cowboys last season due to injury and is 30 years old.
