Wade Phillips will do NFL Draft commentary in England

Of course the former Texans coordinator is heading to London to work the draft. This makes total sense, right? Right?

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Cast out of Houston amidst the Texans' regime change, longtime NFL coach Wade Phillips has finally landed on his feet… working the draft in England?

The former Texans defensive coordinator, who served as the interim head coach after Gary Kubiak's midseason firing, announced to the world on Twitter that he's taking his talents across the pond to work as an NFL Draft analyst for Sky Sports in London.

Having worked in the league since 1981, including head coaching stops in Denver, Buffalo and Dallas, it seems Phillips was unable to land another NFL coaching gig. So naturally he’s off to the UK.

His one concern?

“Hope they can understand Texas English,” Phillips tweeted.

At this point, let’s just be happy if they know what kind of football you’re talking about, Wade.

According to NFLUK, Phillips will appear as a guest on Sky’s May 8 coverage of the first round as well as appearing at a fan forum earlier that day. The forum is being held at some place called Thomas Lord Suite at Lord’s Cricket Ground, which is perhaps the most English-sounding place ever. I’m not sure what the over/under is on the number of times Wade Phillips has been to a cricket grounds, but I’m taking the under.

(You can even apply to attend the forum here!)

It’s unclear whether Sky will be live streaming the coverage, but they do have a live video section, so we can dream.

Here’s to listening to Wade yelling at confused Englishmen about how the Texans HAVE to draft Johnny Football with the No. 1 pick.

Cheers.
