NFL pro day results: Allen Robinson, Dexter McDougle shine for Penn State, Maryland

Allen Robinson and Dexter McDougle headlined the prospects from Penn State and Maryland, respectively, that performed for scouts Tuesday. Both should be seeing increased interest from NFL teams after their workouts.

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Only a handful of pro days remain before the national scouting tour of college workouts officially comes to an end. On Tuesday, scouts visited Penn State and Maryland. While it's unlikely that either team will have a player called in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Nittany Lions have a few prospects that expect to hear their names called relatively early this May.

Here is how the day played out for the participants:

Penn State

Allen Robinson

Wide receiver Allen Robinson was the biggest name in action, and he needed a big day after a disappointing showing at the Scouting Combine. In Indianapolis, Robinson posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.60 seconds, a 39-inch vertical, a three-cone drill of 7.00 seconds and a 128-inch broad jump. He improved on every single one of those numbers Tuesday:

Robinson’s “official” 40 time for his workouts on Tuesday came in at 4.47, according to Jeff Reynolds of CBS Sports. Robinson added a 42-inch vertical, a 6.53 in the three-cone and a 131-inch broad jump. For someone on the fringe of the first round, Robinson absolutely needed to impress at his pro day.

He did that, without question. He was impressive from the start, when he weighed in at 208 pounds, down 12 pounds from the combine.

Both the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers were represented at the pro day, as noted by the Penn State football Twitter account. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was in attendance as well, likely to get a good look at Robinson. The folks over at Behind The Steel Curtain note that the Steelers might have hoped to acquire Robinson in the second round, and may out of luck after his pro day performance.

Other Players of Note

There weren't too many other players expected to be drafted relatively early out of Happy Valley. Linebacker Glenn Carson put up 30 reps on the bench press at 225 pounds, according to Travis Johnson of the Centre Daily Times. Carson also told Johnson that he has a "little bit of a chip on his shoulder" due to not being invited to the Combine. Defensive lineman DaQuan Jones also said that he's been hearing "second or third round" from "outside people" in regards to where he might go on draft day, according to Jeff Rice of 247Sports.

Maryland

Dexter McDougle

McDougle is a draft hopeful at cornerback who saw his hype derail due to injuries during his senior season. He missed all but three games with Maryland last year thanks to a shoulder injury that required surgery. As a result, he was unable to take part in the scouting combine.

McDougle apparently recovered enough since to put on a show for scouts in attendance at the school’s pro day Tuesday. He was impressive in drills, putting up a 40-yard dash between 4.43 and 4.48 seconds, a broad jump of 122 inches and a 37-inch vertical leap, all according to Daniel Martin of CSN Baltimore.

McDougle is a talented cornerback, and he showed that he’s healthy at this point during his workout. Whether that’s enough to push his draft stock up significantly is anybody’s guess.
