The Houston Texans have drafted Pittsburgh quarterback Tom Savage with the No. 135 overall pick in the fourth round. Savage was taken with a compensatory selection. Savage came in at No. 155 on SB Nation's top 200 big board, and was the 10th-ranked quarterback.
NFL Draft results 2014: Tom Savage drafted by Texans in 4th round
The Houston Texans finally draft a quarterback -- with a compensatory selection in the fourth round.

While Savage was the 10th-ranked quarterback, he is the seventh quarterback off the board, and the second of the fourth round (Logan Thomas at No. 120 to the Arizona Cardinals).
Houston hit a wall last season thanks to poor quarterback play from Matt Schaub and Case Keenum. Many thought a quarterback might be in play with the first overall pick of the draft -- potentially Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, who eventually went to the Cleveland Browns later in the first round -- but the Texans took defensive end Jadeveon Clowney with that pick.
The Texans then passed on a quarterback three more times, taking guard Xavier Su'a-Filo in the second round, tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz in the third round and defensive tackle Louis Nix III also in the third round. There was talk that the Texans were interested in making a deal with the New England Patriots for backup quarterback Ryan Mallett, which could still be in play.
Savage is a very raw prospect who was rocketing up draft boards prior to the draft. Of course, that was draft boards in the media, with some outlets suggesting he could be a second-round pick. We took a look at why he became a hot topic back in April, and it’s easy to see why the Texans would be interested. Savage has a high ceiling, but the fact that he’s raw could lead the Texans to making that aforementioned Mallett trade or another move to create competition.
