2014 NFL Draft results: Bengals draft AJ McCarron, Chiefs nab Aaron Murray

The cream of the SEC quarterback crop is off the board, with Cincinnati taking McCarron and Kansas City drafting Murray.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

Rounding out the latter half of Round 5 of the NFL Draft, a pair of SEC quarterbacks came off the board. First, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Georgia's Aaron Murray with pick no. 163. One pick later, the Cincinnati Bengals grabbed Alabama signal-called AJ McCarron to back up Andy Dalton.

McCarron has been one of the more controversial NFL prospects over the last two years, Having won two National Championships with the Tide and compiled a 36-4 record, McCarron has been labeled a "proven winner" the same way that Ken Dorsey was coming out of Miami. His slip to the fifth round isn't surprising, though, just an indication of how little college win-loss record matters to NFL teams.

Another product of college football's best conference, Murray slipped in just ahead of McCarron. The Bulldog quarterback finished last season with a career-high completion percentage, taking just 13 sacks and throwing nine interceptions. Murray's mistake-free brand of football makes him a solid backup to Alex Smith in Kansas City.
