The 2014 NFL Draft is in the books, as the seventh and final round just wrapped up. There were some big-name players still on the board when the seventh round began, and a few of them were snapped up before it came to an end.
NFL Draft 2014 round 7 results: Michael Sam goes to Rams
The seventh and final round of the 2014 NFL Draft is in the books. Among players selected in the final round was Michael Sam, who was taken by the St. Louis Rams.
Former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams with the No. 249 overall pick. Sam, the first openly gay player in the NFL, was the biggest story heading into these final rounds. Many wondered whether or not he'd find a team or if he'd have to shop his wares on the open market as an undrafted free agent. St. Louis already has an extremely tough defensive line, so Sam will have his work cut out for him.
We did finally see a kicker drafted, as the Washington Redskins took Zach Hocker of Arkansas at No. 228. A punter was selected back in the sixth round. Immediately after Hocker, the Detroit Lions took kicker Nate Freese out of Boston College.
Miami offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson went to the Buffalo Bills at No. 237. This was somewhat surprising given that Henderson has significant off-the-field issues, and plenty of them on-the-field as well. He quit at his pro day twice and was suspended multiple times in college. But if there's a time to take a chance on a guy like that, it's in Round 7.
