T.J. Ward issued arrest warrant in connection with nightclub altercation

A police warrant has been issued for the arrest of Broncos safety T.J. Ward, who may have been involved in an altercation at a nightclub on May 9.

Denver police have issued an arrest warrant for Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward, according to the local CBS affiliate. Ward is reportedly wanted for misdemeanor assault in an incident that took place on May 9. Sources told CBS4 that the warrant was prompted by an altercation at a Denver nightclub.

Court records did not reveal what, exactly, prompted the warrant’s issuance. Sources told CBS4’s Vic Lombardi, that Ward may have done nothing wrong. It appears he has been in contact with police.

Ward was one of the Broncos' biggest free agent acquisitions this offseason after the Cleveland Browns were unable to re-sign him in free agency. He earned second-team All-Pro honors last season, and was named to the first Pro Bowl of his four-year career. Ward is entering his fifth season in the NFL after being drafted early in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

The Broncos seemingly got a good deal on Ward, signing him on a four-year, $22.5 million contract. He joins cornerbacks Aqib Talib and rookie Bradley Roby to improve a secondary that struggled to defend the pass for the Super Bowl runners-up.

Ward was rated as the third-best safety in the NFL last season by Pro Football Focus. He was graded positively as a pass defender, and was the best run defender in the NFL at his position, according to the site. He has five interceptions and five forced fumbles for his career.

Ward has stayed clear of trouble with the law since entering in the league, though he did land on TMZ for another nightclub altercation in 2012. Ward was not arrested, nor was he seen throwing a punch, but the safety reportedly had to be restrained by other club goers before the fight was broken up by police using pepper spray.
