Quotables: Bruce Arians weighs in on Cardinals rookie quarterback Logan Thomas

Can Bruce Arians tap into Logan Thomas’ potential?

Norm Hall

“When he knows what he is doing, and the guys around him know what he is doing, he’s pretty good.”

- Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians on rookie quarterback Logan Thomas

The Arizona Cardinals waited until the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft to address the quarterback position, selecting Logan Thomas out of Virginia Tech. Thomas has a ton of upside given his size, athleticism and arm strength. That being said, Thomas showed plenty of deficiencies in college, the most notable of which was deciding where to throw during his drop back, according to Arizona coach Bruce Arians. Arians added that when Thomas has an idea of what he's doing, he can be a pretty good quarterback. The Cardinals are hoping Arians can mold Thomas into a functional quarterback for their vertical passing game.

"It's not 100 percent certain the Dolphins will keep No. 3 running back Daniel Thomas but there's not much of a trade market for a back who averaged 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7 yards in his three seasons here."

- Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald

The Dolphins haven't been shy about adding running backs in recent years. Since drafting Daniel Thomas in 2011, Miami has brought in Lamar Miller and signed Knowshon Moreno. Where does that leave Daniel Thomas? Well, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald seems to think he'll stick around, but mostly just because nobody is likely to trade for a running back who hasn't been very effective during his career.

“I’m gettin’ right, man. I really am.”

- Detroit Lions wide receiver Ryan Broyles on his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon

Ryan Broyles has shown a ton of promise dating back to his career at Oklahoma. Broyles’ biggest issue has been his inability to stay healthy on a consistent basis. The last three seasons have ended with Broyles on injured reserve, most recently with a torn Achilles tendon. But according to MLive.com, Broyles has been working harder than ever to rehab his latest injury and is nearing a full recovery. He hopes not only to get healthy but to stay that way.

“I have no clue. I didn’t feel it. I had no symptoms. I didn’t feel anything.”

- 49ers rookie safety Jimmie Ward on his fractured foot

The 49ers spent a first-round pick on Northern Illinois safety Jimmie Ward, but they won't get to see him in action until training camp at the earliest. At the NFL Scouting Combine, doctors discovered a fracture in Ward's right foot. He doesn't know how he sustained the injury, but he was still able to run a 4.45 40-yard dash at his pro day. Still, Ward opted for surgery and is being held out of organized team activities as a precaution, according to CSN Bay Area.
