NFL Draft results 2014: Dolphins select Jarvis Landry at No. 63

Jarvis Landry is headed to Miami after hearing his name called in the second round.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

The Miami Dolphins drafted wide receiver Jarvis Landry with the No. 63 overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. Landry was ranked No. 48 on SB Nations top 200 big board and eighth among all receivers. Among the players ranked higher than Landry were Brandin Cooks and teammate Odell Beckham Jr. He slotted above players such as Davante Adams and Donte Moncrief.

Landry was given second-team All-SEC honors after his 2013 junior season. In his three seasons with the Tigers, he played in 40 games and finished 10th in program history with 137 career receptions. In his final season with the team, Landry tallied 77 receptions for 1,193 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. That was his best season by a wide margin, with his sophomore season having just 573 yards and five touchdowns off of 56 receptions.

Landry was given the Charles McClendon Award, a prize that goes to the team’s most valuable player, at the end of his junior campaign.

Combine results

Height: 6’0

Weight: 205 pounds

40-yard dash: 4.77 seconds

Bench press: 12 reps of 225 pounds

Vertical jump: 28.5 inches

Broad jump: 110 inches

The biggest knock on Landry prior to the NFL Combine was his lack of explosiveness and elite top-end speed. That criticism remained a concern after he failed to provide scouts with any impressive numbers in Indianapolis. At a half-inch under 6'0, Landry lacks ideal size, and his lackluster numbers at the combine further detracted from his accomplishments on the field. He quickly fell behind Beckham Jr. in the headlines, but even though he's "that other LSU receiver," he's got plenty of strong tape to his name.
