2014 NFL Draft results: Carlos Hyde goes to 49ers in 2nd round
The top running back on most boards, Hyde was plucked by the 49ers in the second round.

Ohio State Buckeyes running back Carlos Hyde was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round with the No. 57 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Hyde was the top running back available in the eyes of most pundits coming into the draft. He ran through the Big Ten last season, gaining 1,521 rushing yards on an astonishing 7.3 yards per carry. He also scored 15 touchdowns for the Buckeyes, who went undefeated in the regular season before losing to Michigan State in the conference championship game.
At 6’0 and 230 pounds, Hyde can easily run between the tackles. His vision allows for him to jump to the outside as well, but he’s best suited in a power style. Hyde was consistent in 2013 for Ohio State, gaining at least 111 yards on the ground in each of its final nine games.
Hyde finished the campaign as an All-Big Ten First-Team selection and the conference’s Running Back of the Year award recipient. He was ranked No. 75 on SB Nation’s top 200 big board, which made him third among all running backs, behind Bishop Sankey and Ka’Deem Carey.

In our scouting report of Hyde, Dan Kadar wrote about another part of his game:
As a pass-catcher, Hyde was often underutilized at Ohio State. He finished his career with just 34 receptions, but that’s more of an indictment on Ohio State’s scheme than Hyde’s ability. He often flashes solid hands, making him a good checkdown asset on short throws. Won’t do a lot after the catch. Could cut faster on his routes. Decent as a pass-blocker.
Hyde is not without his question marks, however, since he was suspended for three games last season for an alleged assault. So some teams may have Hyde much lower on their draft boards, depending on their opinions after interviewing him.
