Stanford fans watched Trent Murphy dominate the college game for years. Now, Redskins fans hope to see that continue in the NFL.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

With the No. 47 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected Stanford outside linebacker Trent Murphy.

Murphy comes from one of the most successful programs of the last five years. The standout senior led all of the FBS with 15 sacks in 2013, helping him become a first-team All-Pac-12 selection along with being named a consensus All-American.

With Murphy leading the way on defense, the Cardinal won the Pac-12 championship before losing the Rose Bowl to Michigan State. Murphy was a three-year starter for Stanford, earning notoriety as a junior when he became a third-team All-American, a First-Team All-Pac-12 selection and a Butkus Award semifinalist, an award given to the top linebacker in the country.

At 6’5 and 250 pounds, Murphy brings ideal size to the NFL along with good strength. The main concern is whether he has enough speed to be an every-down linebacker at the pro level. Murphy came in at No. 102 on SB Nation’s top 200 big board, seventh among all outside linebackers.
