NFL Draft results 2014: Morgan Moses goes in 3rd round to Redskins

Moses fell farther than expected but his NFL dream comes true in the third round.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

The Washington Redskins have selected Virginia offensive tackle Morgan Moses with the 66th overall pick in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Moses was SB Nation's fifth-ranked offensive tackle and No. 44 overall player on the top 200 big board. He was ranked behind the top tier of tackles, including Jake Matthews and Greg Robinson, but was ahead of Antonio Richardson and Ja'Wuan James.

Moses started all but one game in his final three seasons with the Virginia Cavaliers, moving over to left tackle in his senior season to replace Oday Aboushi. While he had strong performances during his senior season against pass rushers such as Jeremiah Attaochu and Kyle Van Noy, he earned only third-team All-ACC honors after the season.

Moses did make it to the Coaches All-ACC second team and was a preseason All-ACC nomination. He was named to the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award watch lists. He started all 12 games at left tackle in his senior season, and was invited to the 2014 Senior Bowl. In all, he had 43 career starts with Virginia, so has plenty of experience under his belt.

Moses now hopes to join the Virginia pipeline of offensive line starters in the NFL, a list that includes Austin Pasztor, Branden Albert, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, and Eugene Monroe.

Combine results

Height: 6’6

Weight: 314 pounds

40-yard dash: 5.35 seconds

Vertical jump: 21.5”

Broad jump: 8’10

20-yard shuttle: 4.95 seconds

3-cone drill: 7.93 seconds

Moses didn't impress at the NFL Combine, but didn't embarrass himself either, as he made up for a poor vertical jump with a broad jump that showed he has plenty of lower body explosion. His 40-yard dash wasn't all that impressive, but was average for a player of his massive size. Typically, the 40-yard dash is the least important aspect of the combine for offensive linemen. His drills went just fine, by all accounts.
