NFL Draft results 2014: Jack Mewhort goes No. 59 to Colts

Jack Mewhort’s versatility will be much appreciated in front of Andrew Luck for the Colts.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

The Indianapolis Colts have selected Ohio State offensive tackle Jack Mewhort with the No. 59 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Mewhort was SB Nation's eighth-ranked offensive tackle and No. 71 overall player on the top 200 big board. He was ranked behind offensive linemen like Ja'Wuan James and Morgan Moses, but was ahead of North Dakota State's Billy Turner and Clemson's Brandon Thomas.

Mewhort started at left tackle for the Buckeyes in each of his final two seasons with the program while the team went on a 24-game winning streak that spanned two years. Prior to that, he earned time at both guard spots as a sophomore in 2011. In his senior season, Mewhort earned first-team All-American honors from ESPN, and third-team All-American recognition from The Associated Press.

Mewhort was previously arrested for a 2012 incident, so that was likely something he was asked about often in the pre-draft process. He is a versatile offensive lineman who could realistically be asked to play anywhere along the line in the NFL. Mewhort had a decent showing at the combine, although he didn’t particularly stand out in any one of the drills.
