NFL Draft results 2014: Weston Richburg selected by Giants at No. 43

Richburg joins the Giants to beef up the interior offensive line in front of Eli Manning.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

The New York Giants have drafted Colorado State center Weston Richburg with the No. 43 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He was the No. 67 prospect on SB Nation's top 200 big board, which placed him first among centers. While there are multiple guards ahead of him, Marcus Martin is the next-best center at No. 72.

Richburg earned First-Team All-Mountain West honors in 2013 after earning honorable mention and Second-Team honors in the two seasons prior. He was a full-time starter in his four seasons with the Rams, and made a school-record 50 consecutive starts for the team.

The Rams weren’t a great team while Richburg was in town, but he still played well. He started all 14 games at center in 2013 and helped the Rams to an 8-6 record, the team’s best showing since 2002. Colorado rushed for 204.4 yards per game on average with Richburg starting, the highest since 2002. They also averaged 470.9 total yards per game and had 500-plus yards eight times. Richburg was a big part of that offensive success.

Richburg joins fellow former Colorado State offensive linemen Erik Pears (Buffalo Bills) and Shelley Smith (Miami Dolphins) in the NFL. Two other Colorado State players are in the NFL in tight end Joel Dressen (Denver Broncos) and Caleb Hanie (Dallas Cowboys).

Combine results

Height: 6’3

Weight: 298

40-yard dash: 5.10

Bench press: 25

Vertical jump: 25.5”

Broad jump: 8’10

20-yard shuttle: 4.63

3-cone drill: 7.93

Richburg isn’t a tremendously gifted athlete and didn’t play against the strongest competition at Colorado State; however, he did well in his limited time against top defensive lineman. A durable and intelligent center, Richburg is the type of player who will be expected to start at center for a very long time as a dependable and solid player on the interior.
