SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

The Chicago Bears have selected Arizona State defensive tackle Will Sutton with the 82nd pick in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Sutton was ranked No. 79 among all prospects on SB Nation's top 200 big board, and ranked eighth among all defensive tackles behind DaQuan Jones, Ego Ferguson and Ed Stinson.

Sutton had a tumultuous start to his career with the Sun Devils, missing out on the entire 2010 season due to academic ineligibility. He returned to the team in 2011 and had a breakout year in 2012. He went on to earn Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in both his junior and senior seasons. Sutton tallied 16 sacks and 37 tackles for loss over his final two seasons at ASU.

The Bears need some help along the defensive front and grabbed Sutton along with Ego Ferguson on the second day of the draft.

Combine results

Height: 6’1

Weight: 303 lbs.

Bench press: 24 reps of 225 lbs.

40-yard dash: 5.26 seconds

Vertical jump: 28.5 inches

Broad jump: 99 inches (8’3)

3-cone drill: 7.93 seconds

20-yard shuttle run: 4.82 seconds

Much of the pre-draft storyline for Sutton revolved around his weight, which ballooned between his junior and senior seasons and preceded a drop in production. Undersized without much burst or speed, Sutton’s exceptional use of hands and leverage made him a strong pass rusher from the interior.
