Aaron Hernandez trial dates set for murder charges

Aaron Hernandez will stand trials for separate murder charges; the shooting of Odin Lloyd in 2013, and the double murder of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in 2012.

Aaron Hernandez is scheduled to go to trial on May 28, 2015 for the double murder of two men in Boston following a dispute at a nightclub, according to the Boston Herald. Hernandez was handed the date at a hearing Tuesday. The trial will tentatively start a little more than seven months after his trial for the murder of Odin Lloyd, set to begin Oct. 6.

Hernandez was arraigned for the double murder last month, and he pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and five other charges.

The dispute allegedly started when one of the victims, Daniel de Abreu spilled Hernandez's drink on the former New England Patriots tight end. Hernandez later told a friend that he thought de Abreu spilled the drink on purpose.

Hernandez then reportedly followed de Abreu and another man from the nightclub, pulled up to the two at a stoplight and open fired into their vehicle with a revolver, killing both.

The Herald described an intense scene at the hearing:

The disgraced tight end laughed and smiled as he spoke with his attorney Charles Rankin while a relative of one of Hernandez’s alleged victims sobbed loudly moments before the hearing started in Suffolk Superior Court. The female relative had to briefly leave court before returning. Hernandez and the woman were only feet away from each other at the time.
