Marcell Dareus was possibly drag racing against his own teammate

Dareus wasn’t drag racing against just anybody. Bills teammate Jerry Hughes confirmed that he was the other driver in the alleged street race that took place Friday.

Marcell Dareus could earn a suspension, either from the NFL or the Buffalo Bills, after being arrested last week for apparently drag racing against a black Camaro. Dareus was caught because he crashed into a tree outside of a Mongolian Buffet, but what of the Camaro? What happened to this mysterious and daring street racer? Where could he --

“I was driving my vehicle, but like I said, it’s an ongoing investigation with the Hamburg police,” Hughes said. “I’m going to wait for them to figure out what they’re doing.”

Oh, OK.

That's Dareus' teammate Jerry Hughes confirming that he was the other driver in the incident. It's unclear what happened to him after the alleged race. Apparently it wasn't too difficult to piece together a few pertinent clues. Via ESPN:

Hamburg police said Tuesday that they were investigating the identity of the driver a black Camaro that was seen street racing with Dareus on Friday afternoon. A black Camaro with a Texas Christian University novelty license plate was in the Bills’ parking lot Tuesday. Hughes played college football at TCU.

Dareus picked up three misdemeanor charges as a result of his arrest, the most serious being a Class A misdemeanor of reckless endangerment in the second degree. Pending the result of the police investigation, Hughes may also face charges.

It’s unclear whether Hughes will see punishment from the team or league. Unlike Dareus, who was arrested in May for speeding and felony possession of a controlled substance, Hughes has kept himself out of headlines. He is currently in OTAs with the Bills, unlike Dareus, who is being held out by head coach Doug Marrone in hopes that the defensive tackle can get back on track to contribute for the 2014 season.

Hughes, meanwhile, is coming off a breakout season in which he record 10 sacks as a situational pass rusher. He is expected to have a starting role this season, per Bills blog Buffalo Rumblings.
