NFL looking into stadiums other than Wembley for International Series

The NFL is tinkering with the idea of playing games across the pond in a stadium other than Wembley.

The National Football League is exploring options to play in English venues other than Wembley Stadium, according to the Sports Business Journal. The NFL has been playing a series of regular-season games in London since 2007 and now is hoping to get a better financial deal.

All of the games played in England have been hosted at Wembley Stadium, a venue that reopened in 2007. One of the NFL’s options is building a new stadium in England, partnering with one of the English Premier League teams.

In recent years, there has been conversation about a team moving permanently to London, giving the NFL its first team based outside the United States. However, there are plenty of problems with the idea. A few of the main issues include the franchise trying to attract players via free agency and, more importantly, a demanding travel schedule.

For 2014, the league is scheduled to play three games in London, with the Oakland Raiders playing the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 28, the Atlanta Falcons versus the Detroit Lions on Oct. 26 and the Dallas Cowboys pitted against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 9.
