Mike Pouncey won’t be suspended for bullying scandal, per report

A league spokesman has indicated the Dolphins center won’t face league punishment for his role in the Jonathan Martin controversy.

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey will miss at least the first month of the season with a hip injury, but he reportedly won't have to worry about a suspension when he gets back. The NFL has indicated the Pro Bowl lineman will not face league punishment for his role in the Jonathan Martin bullying scandal, according to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said during an email exchange that there has been “no change in [Pouncey’s] active status [and] we have no other information to offer on the subject.”

When asked if he anticipated any punitive measures in the future, Aiello responded: “Never say never, but I don’t anticipate having to address the issue again.”

Pouncey was listed as one of the primary figures in the bullying scandal that rocked the Dolphins' 2013 season and resulted in Martin's voluntary departure from the team. The Wells report, the result of an independent investigation into the incident, named Pouncey alongside teammates Richie Incognito and John Jerry as instigators of abusive behavior toward Martin, who left the team last October and signed with the San Fransisco 49ers this offseason.

Incognito was suspended by the Dolphins for three months in the wake of the scandal and is currently a free agent. Jerry signed a free agent contract with the New York Giants, who stated in March they don't expect a suspension from the league office.

In late June it was reported that Pouncey had suffered a torn labrum in his hip and is expected to miss at least the first month of the 2014 season. Reports called that assessment optimistic, however, so the Dolphins could be without their center for considerably longer.
