Chicago Bears fans may have found their new hero: the punter. But rookie Pat O'Donnell is no ordinary punter. He's "Mega Punt," a new nickname bestowed upon him by excited fans watching him fire off moon shots at training camp this weekend.
Bears fans are so excited about training camp they’re cheering for punts
When you’re watching football practice, you’ve got to find something to keep it interesting.
Also, chanting for punters is a good reminder of just how exciting training camp really isn’t. But, hey, this kid can punt.
Here’s Mega Punt in action.
Crowds went wild with each thundering punt from the Bears rookie. It wasn’t long until the chant started ... “Meg-a-punt! Meg-a-punt!” Have a listen for yourself at the rowdy crowd rallying their new favorite.
If NFL Films used a cellphone to shoot videos, it would look and sound just like the video at the top of the page.
O’Donnell, er, Mega Punt, was an All-American punter during his time at the University of Miami. Chicago drafted him in the sixth round this year, and since punters have tended to be a dime a dozen on the waiver wire, that’s a good sign that Mega Punt figures heavily into the Bears’ plans.
Marc Trestman on if he heard the fans chanting for Pat O'Donnell: "Yeah, I sure did. Those Miami alums, they're an enthusiastic bunch."
